🙋‍♀️Men! As much as #toxicmasculinity indicates that you are 'allowed' to exert #powerandcontrol over others (read women and other genders), it MAY lead to #domesticabuse of men over women. Much the same way, the exact opposite is true as well! But when it comes to #malevictims of #abuse , this #conditioning from several cultures and societies also holds back men from seeking support because they are 'meant' to be in power and control of themselves at all times. #shutout the culture of #toxicmasculinity so that this #duality and its negative impact in both ways, reduces. #vulnerability after and while experiencing abuse is normal but sitting over it and continuing to keep it your #closelyguardedsecret is not in your longterm interest - your #mentalhealth is your responsibility . 💜Men don't have it any easy either when it comes to #domesticabuse #genderstereotyping is so deep set in most cultures that, men, most often, won't show emotions or cry in public or look vulnerable in any form, let alone admit they have experienced #domesticviolence . Although things are slowly changing and if one looks around, many men are becoming more comfortable with expression, yet #domesticviolence continues to remain a #skeletoninthecloset for the majority. It's a #doublewhammy for men to experience DV and then live with the shame of it. They choose to keep the #skeletoninthecloset that way. The pressure of living a gender stereotype, cultural conditioning and even ego - all come to play here. So, many men choose to suffer DV rather than overcome any of these to resolve their personal growth and mental health issues that come with DV. 💜 A question to you ! What makes you fearful of making the choice of living alone, should the need be, after facing #domesticabuse ? Some times this is one of the most overriding factors of decision making amongst my clients...how will I live alone? While it is not everyone's #cupoftea☕️ to live by themselves and it may not be applicable in all cases of abuse as well, it may well be one of the best things that may serve you to help you make the other decisions around your #survival and #lifebeyondabuse ❗️ It may give you the capacity to think and work towards what lies beyond. However, pushes and pulls exist. But before those hold you back, comes your willingness to even think about this option and how it serves you.
